Enjoy Swedish Days in Geneva: Food, Fun, and Festivities
Swedish Days is an annual celebration in Geneva that draws thousands of people each summer to enjoy a vibrant mix of food, music, and activities for all ages. This year, the event runs from Wednesday to Sunday, June 19-23. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, there will be some important parking restrictions and street closures.
Parking Restrictions
Parking signage will be temporarily posted in certain areas throughout the week to accommodate the influx of visitors. Be mindful of these restrictions when parking downtown. The main festival areas impacted by parking restrictions include:
- Third Street (from State to South streets)
- James Street (from Second to Fifth streets)
- Campbell Street (from Second to Fifth streets)
It’s crucial to respect these signs as they are there to provide a safe environment for festival patrons. Do not remove the signs, as they are meant to maintain safety for everyone attending Swedish Days.
Street Closures
Several streets will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Tuesday, June 18, to facilitate the festivities:
- James Street from Third to Fourth streets
- Third Street from James to Campbell streets
The 300 block of James Street will remain closed through the end of the festival. The section of Third Street near the Kane County Courthouse will be shut down until Saturday, June 22, and will reopen mostly on Sunday, except during the Swedish Days Parade.
Parade Day Closures
The parade will step off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. A detour route will be established, with police officers directing traffic at various locations along the parade route. Streets shut down during the parade include:
- State Street (Route 38) from Second Street to Logan Avenue on the west side of the Fox River
- Third Street from State Street to Route 31
- Anderson Boulevard from State to Union streets
State Street Detour
Westbound motorists should take the following detour: north on Second Street, west on Stevens Street, north on Edison Street, west on Union Street, and south on Logan Avenue to resume westbound travel on Route 38. Eastbound traffic will follow the reverse route.
Aerial Safety Measures
A law enforcement drone will be deployed during the parade to support public safety, providing real-time aerial monitoring for police and emergency management personnel. This will help ensure a secure environment for all attendees.
